EYFS

Our curriculum at the Woodbury Children’s Nursery is designed under the guidelines of the British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. There are four central principles to the EYFS, which are key to our practice:

Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self- assured. Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships. Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and carers. Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates.

The framework covers the learning and development of all children in early years provision, including children with additional needs.

Planning is centred around cross-curricular themes that will interest young minds and incorporate all 7 learning focus areas of the EYFS:

Communication and Language
Personal, Social and Emotional
Development
Physical Development
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding of the World
Expressive Arts and Design

Our curriculum at Woodbury is based on the following basic themes:

Play and exploration in nature
Story telling focus
A creative focus

WHAT IS FOREST SCHOOL?

Originating in Europe, forest schools are becoming increasingly popular in the United Kingdom and have now spread to the United States and Australia as the benefits of learning and spending time in a natural environment are vast.

Forest school sessions can be described as a learning experience with no physical boundaries. Sessions are usually held outdoors, typically in a woodland or forest environment. Activities are based around the natural world and objects that can be found in nature. Children are encouraged to explore, play and learn in natural environments with teachers taking on a guiding and supportive role in the learning experience.

Outdoor learning is a key part of our program here at Woodbury. We have developed an excellent outdoor facility and our children will have substantial periods of time in natural environments. We are proud to be bringing the concept of forest school to Dubai and have incorporated forest school sessions into each class’s activity time. The children here at Woodbury have the opportunities to initiate and take part in activities that encourage them to develop a variety of skills, incorporating many of the aspects of forest school.

Forest school promotes:
Learning in all curriculum areas
Self-esteem and self confidence
Understanding and respect for the world around us
Developing our investigative and creative minds
Development of language skills

Woodbury has taught my daughter to be independent and to love books, she never used to like being read to but now she does! She has learnt many things from both her teachers and her classmates. It’s homely, very cozy and a comfortable learning place for kids!
